During a period of 4 to 19 May, 1986, there had been an outbreak of epidemic diarrhea primarily among adults in Xiang yang county, Hubei Provinee. 98 out of 208 people were infected, with an incidence rate of 47.1%. All age groups were attacked, most of them were youth and in their prime of life. 18 faecal samples were taken for culture of bacteria, the results showed no bacterial pathogen. Nevertheless, virus particles with typical rotavirus morphology were found in 9 samples (50%), again, 13/18 samples (72...
The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) strain AD_(169) was inoculated into SL_7 cells. Between the 3rd and 4th day postinfeetion, the capsids were assembled in the nucleus and budded through the nuclear membrane. From the perinuclear cisterns, the enveloped particles migrated into the cytoplasm. At this stage the virions were formed. At the 4th day most of the capsids closely associated with a skein-like material, namely typical nuclear inclusion, were observed. It may be the site of viral synthesis. Concurrent w...
The biological properties of three cell lines transformed by HSV-2 were investigated. The results indicate that the transformed cell lines possess the following characteristies:(1) chromosomal abnormalities; (2) reduce of requirement for serum factor; (3) rapid growth; (4) colony formation in soft agar; (5) increase of agglutination by Con Aand(6) induction of malignant tumor in nude mice These strongly suggest that the transformed cells are neoplastic.
Immunofluorescence of viral neuraminidase in the replication of influenza virus in the BCMK cells was studied with two monoclonal antibodiesagainst neuraminidase of influenza A virus AJShanghaiJ13/85oThe results showed intracellular behavior and conformational changes of viral neuraminidase and the effect of monoclonal antibodies against neuraminidase on the entry of influenza virus into cells.
We detected antibodies to HFRSV in 156 sera of 82 patients with HFRS diagnosed clinically by RPHI and IFA-IgG. 66 out of 82 cases showed positive, and 83.6% and 73.8% of them were 4 times higher than those of acute stage in antibody titer of convalescent serum by RPHI and IFA-IgG, respectively. There were no false-positive results in 256 normal sera. The positivity rates of detecting antibodies during the first five days after onset by RPHI and IFA-IgG were 53.3% and 41.9% respectively, and 95.8%, 79.2% in ...
It was found that the epidemic hemorrhagic fever(EHF) viruses could be replicated well in cultured peritoneal macrophages derived from Mongolian gerbiles, Syrian golden hamster and Balb/c mice as well as in cultured human peripheral blood leukocyte. The sensitivity of maerophages from Mongolian gerbiles and Syrian golden hamster were higher than Vero-E_6-cells, however, the macrophage from Balb/c mouse was less sensitive than the other three. No obvious difference was observed for the replicating ability in...
The structural polypeptides of Buzura suppressaria Guenee nuclear polyhedrosis virus was studied by vertical slab polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The results revealed that the polyhedrin—the only major polypeptide with molecular weight of 31×10~3±1000d and the virus particle had at least 23 bands with molecular weight ranging from 13 to 107×10~3d. Glycoproteins of polyhedrin and virus particle were absent by PAS staining detection.
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(PAGE) and agarose gel eleetrophoresis(AGE) were used to analyze the Chinese Sacbrood Virus(CSBV). The experiment revealed the RNA of CSBV is a single-stranded species which is easily degraded, and the virus protein consists of three polypeptides with molecular weight of 27,000, 29,000 and 39,000 daltons respectively. The RNA and three polypeptides of the CSBV were different from those of thesacbrood virus from Apis mellifera (SBV). ′Institute of Apiculture, Chinese Academy...
A granulosis virus was isolated from dead larvae of Iragoides conjuncta Walker from jujube trees in Fei Cheng, August 1981. Under electron microscope the granular bodies were shown to be elliptic, oval in shape and the size of 200—250×300—400nm. The virus particles liberated from the granular bodies in 2% NaOH were rod shape and curved slightly, with rounded end, measuring 150—200×30—35nm. This virus belongs to subgroup B of Baculovirus, terms IcGV. Bioassay conducted in the laboratory showed that the mediu...
The differentiation of TMV strains was studied and identified all over the country according to the principle of classification of TMV strains proposed by Pelham, J. (1938). The results of identification show that there is a strain differentiation of TMV on tomato in China where four strains were isolated from tomato fields. The strain 0 which only infects susceptible varieties (+/+) holds the most considerable proportion in TMV population in nature, which is widely distributed in most of the tomato produci...
The distribution of Citrus Exocotis Viroid (CEV) in different organs of Gynura aurantiaca infected by CEV was examined by bioassay, bidirectional polyaerylamide gel electrophoresis and molecular hybridization. These organs include root, stem, leaf, flower and seed. The results show that there is CEV distributed in the different organs of Gynura auranliaca.
The results of the experiments in 1983—1986 showed that the combined use of vaccine N_(14) of TMV_(ts) and satellite RNA bio-control preparation CMVS_(52) can effectively prevent tomato plants from infection of TMV and CMV. The experiments in the past four years proved that the rate of disease in the immunized tomato plants dropped by 25.2~45.4%, the disease index dropped by 16.1—31.3 and the yield increase reached 22.3—44.9% per mu. In 1986 the total representative areas in Shanxi province was about 958 mu...
The strawberry growing in Shanghai suburb was suffered from viral infection with several different kinds of symptoms. Two viral isolates were obtained from the diseased leaves by procedures of chloroform, PEG treatments and of following differential and suerose gradient centrifugations. The electron microscopic observations showed that both of these two isolates have isometric appearance with different sizes about 28—30 nm and 40 nm, respectively. The nature of these isolates was discussed.
The structural polypeptides of the singly-enveloped viral particles and nuclcocapsids of the Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus were analyzed by O Farrell s two-dimensional electrophoresis technique and silver staining. The singly-enveloped viral particle contains ca. 96 polypeptides and the nucleocapsid contains ca. 72 polypeptides. There is a significant amount of a polypeptide with mol. wt. of 31K, beth in the viral particle preparation and in the nucleocapsid preparation, which could not be removed ...
